Salt Lake’s community-based nonprofit NeighborWorks is welcoming a new Chief Executive Officer. Bryce Garner has been appointed to be the next CEO of the organization effective March 24, 2025.
Garner has been involved with NeighborWorks Salt Lake (NWSL) throughout his career. Since 2010, he has worked at the University of Utah and recently served as Director of Administration for the International and Area Studies Office. Through his time at the university, he’s helped secure federal funding and foundation grants, showing a keen eye for planning, budgeting, and financial oversight.
"Bryce's proven leadership and deep commitment to both the University of Utah and the Salt Lake City community make him an ideal fit for NWSL," said Charles Knadler, Board President of the NWSL. “His extensive experience in financial stewardship, program development, and community engagement will be instrumental in advancing our mission to create sustainable, thriving communities and his deep ties to NWSL and the community will be instrumental in ensuring a smooth transition.”
Garner holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Utah. As a longtime resident of the Fairpark neighborhood, Garner has a personal connection to NWSL’s vision of community preservation and collaboration. He’s also held several various leadership roles and says he’s committed to the mission of community development.
Outgoing CEO Maria Garciaz, who’s been with NWSL for 39 years, said Garner will play a significant role in the future of the organization. Garciaz will continue in a transitional role for Garner’s first three months in the position. Then, she will transition to a consultant role for another nine months at the request of the board.
"Maria's dedication and vision have been the cornerstone of NeighborWorks Salt Lake's success over the years," said Charles Knadler, Board President. "We are grateful for her many years of service and are fortunate to have her continued involvement during this important transition."
Garner’s career has been defined by his commitment to creating positive changes and building community partnerships. He has received numerous awards for his leadership, including the 2019 Excellence in Global Engagement Award, the 2018 College of Humanities Partnership Award, and the 2014 Humanities Staff Excellence Award.
NeighborWorks Salt Lake aims to help neighborhoods through the creation of housing, leadership, and economic development opportunities. Board President Knadler said he believes Garner will continue to enhance the impact of the NWSL while advancing its overall mission of helping the local community.
