This month’s Westside Eats takes us to Rose Park, where Don Daniel’s Mexican Grill and Cantina has been delighting locals with authentic Mexican cuisine since 1995. Located at 1017 N 900 West, this family-owned gem is more than just a restaurant — it’s a cornerstone of the neighborhood that has been feeding the community for 30 years.

From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed by the inviting aroma of freshly prepared food, lively music, and warm, positive energy. Guests are immediately treated to a basket of chips and salsa while browsing a menu full of tempting dishes and refreshing drinks. A salsa bar stocked with a variety of flavorful salsas and toppings adds a fun, customizable touch to every meal.
One of the best ways to experience Don Daniel’s is through a combination plate. Served with classic rice and beans, these plates allow you to mix and match your favorites. During my visit, I ordered the taco and burrito combination, both filled with carne asada. The carne asada was exceptional — rich, smoky, and grilled to perfection. The burrito, stuffed with rice and beans, tied all the flavors together beautifully, making every bite hearty and satisfying.
But the menu doesn’t stop there. Don Daniel’s offers an impressive variety of dishes, from enchiladas and fajitas to ceviche and comforting caldo soups. No matter your preference, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

It’s no surprise that Don Daniel’s has stood the test of time. With delicious food, a welcoming atmosphere, and decades of dedication to the community, it’s easily one of the biggest hidden gems in Salt Lake City. In fact, I’d go as far as to say Don Daniel’s serves some of the best Mexican food in Utah.
For anyone in Salt Lake — and especially those who live in Rose Park — Don Daniel’s Mexican Grill and Cantina is a must-visit. I give it a glowing 10 out of 10. If you haven’t yet experienced this local treasure, make it a priority — you won’t be disappointed.
